For my typography class, we were each assigned an iconic typeface to research. From this research, we were instructed to come up with a concept for a five spread brochure about our typeface. The content of the brochure was to be entirely about that typeface and discovered in our research. In the design, we were only permitted to use that specific font.
I chose to hand draw chosen words from the body text and deconstruct them based on geometrical shapes. This was based on my research that Paul Renner designed each letter to reflect geometric shapes. The hand-drawn type gives the viewer the vibe that they are there in the process of Paul Renner designing the type. One of the challenges I faced was the fact that Futura’s readability as a body type is pretty low and I had to compensate for that with a larger body type and wider line spacing.
